Schedule of Events

9-10 AM: Student Competitions (see below for details); Visit exhibits

10 AM-12 PM: Participatory Masterclass with Rhonda Larson

Bring your flute!

12-12:45 PM: Lunch (provided for all pre-registered attendees); Visit exhibits

12:45-1:30 PM: "Self Care for Flutists" guided by Shelley Warren, flutist and Licensed Massage Therapist - learn some things to do to take care of yourself and avoid repetitive motion injuries. Relax and get the kinks out.

1:30-2 PM: Flute Day Flute Choir rehearsal.  Bring your flutes to practice a piece for the Final Concert!

2-4 PM: Masterclass with Rhonda Larson (see below if you would like to perform) 

Exhibits open

4-5 PM: Flute Day Final Concert featuring winners of the Student Competitions

FLUTE DAY INFORMATION

Rhonda Larson Show, One Woman, a World of Music: April 23, 2010; 7:30 PM (tickets included in price for all pre-registered attendees)

Flute Day: April 24, 2010; 9 AM to 5 PM


Flute Day Fees:

  1. $25 for adults

  2. $15 for students (through college):


All flutists who pre-register by April 16th will receive lunch plus a ticket to Rhonda Larson’s Show, One Woman, a World of Music included in the Flute Day fee.


All events will be held in the Moss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall unless otherwise noted.



STUDENT COMPETITIONS:

  1. 1.All students are invited to participate in the Student Competitions. 

  2. 2.All participants are responsible for providing an accompanist.

  3. 3.Competition Application, along with a $5 entry fee must be postmarked by April 16, 2010.


Middle School Competition (grades 6-8):

Please play two contrasting solos of choice.


High School Competition (grades 9-12):

Please play two contrasting solos of choice.


Orchestral Excerpt Competition (grades 9-college):

Please prepare the following excerpts:

    1. Mendelssohn: Midsummer Night’s Dream

    2. Debussy: Afternoon of a Faun

    3. Beethoven: Leonore Overture



PARTICIPATORY MASTERCLASS:

Bring your flutes to learn from Rhonda Larson!



TRADITIONAL MASTERCLASS WITH RHONDA LARSON:

Flutists of all ages invited to perform.  Please send a completed Masterclass Application, postmarked no later than April 16, along with a CD recording of your performance of the piece you wish to perform.  Up to 6 flutists will be selected to play.



FLUTE DAY FINAL CONCERT:

Winners of the middle school and high school Student Competition will be featured.  Flutists of advanced high-school level and up are invited to perform flute solos and ensembles.  Performers will be taken on first-come basis until the time is full.  If you wish to perform, please send the names of all performers in your group (including accompanist), name and composer of piece, and estimated time of piece to be played.
